Sunbury Antiques Market News on Proposed Planning

Sunbury Antiques Market News on Proposed Planning

As a result of this Local Plan, Spelthorne Borough Council recently issued a ‘Call for Sites’ enabling those who have ideas where development might go, to submit them to the Council. As many of you have probably heard The Jockey Club has submitted its estate at Kempton Park for ‘consideration’ for redevelopment. The Jockey Club, in conjunction with Redrow Homes, have jointly proposed the redevelopment of the Kempton Park estate with the potential of building of 3,000 new homes on the site.

It should be noted that it will be for the Council, through its new Local Plan, to decide how much development is needed in the future and the most sustainable locations for it to go. It is not bound by any particular proposals that are put forward by developers.

To date there has been a huge outpouring against this proposal not only from Spelthorne Borough Council members, many of whom are against the plan to redevelop Kempton Park, but also from leading members of the racing fraternity who are openly questioning the rationale of losing such a historic and profitable racecourse. Local residents have joined forces with historians and have launched a ‘Save Kempton Park’ website, Facebook and Twitter pages, along with a petition against this proposal.

Throughout our 38 year history, Sunbury Antiques has experienced and overcome many hurdles and has continued to grow from strength to strength. Over these years we have developed a strong and successful relationship with The Jockey Club, which will continue into the future. We will be working closely with them in any future discussions regarding any redevelopment plans. Please bear in mind that this is only a proposal and the first step of a process that would take several years before there are changes, if any, to operations at Kempton Park. Rest assured, Sunbury Antiques will continue.
